OTTAWA - The federal government is asking Canadians to contribute their ideas and opinions on how information technology can be used to produce worldwide social and economic benefits. These ideas may then be presented at the World Summit on Information Society.
The Summit will look at a variety of topics that affect the technology sector including infrastructure development, financing universal access, systems security, and user privacy. Political and industry leaders and United Nations executive members are expected to attend.
The Summit is expected to take place in two sessions, the first taking place December 10-12, 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland and the second in 2005 in Tunis, Tunisia. A universal declaration and an action plan are expected to be designed during the Geneva session.
If you would like to share your ideas and opinions with the Summit you can do so online at http://www.wsis-smsi.gc.ca . The deadline for contributions is September 30, 2003.
