OUR STORY
The Process Server
As a Process Server, we lead a very interesting career. For those who don't know what we do, we serve (deliver to opposing parties) and file (submit in Court) various court documents. Our clients are lawyers.
Serving court documents can be quite interesting and at times, dangerous. We can tell you stories on some of the most creative ways people evade us but this story is about how I came to create this software.
The Observation
I was constantly at court filing documents and I would always see self-represented litigants struggle with their divorce forms. I would always try to help when possible. A number of times, I would see Police officers guide these litigants out because they were so frustrated and confused with these forms that they became verbally abusive with the Clerks.
I've handled literally thousands of Divorce Applications throughout my career. After a while, you see a pattern and start noticing common errors on how these forms were completed (or really, "incomplete"). That being said, I started thinking about how I could simplify these forms and highlight these common areas which were known to be done incorrectly. I thought about this for a long time.
The Light
One day, I decided to do my taxes online with a well-known tax software. It was my first time and I was told from a friend, it was easy. Although I had no accounting background, I was amazed how simple the process was to complete. That’s when it hit me... to create a divorce software that was similar in idea. I immediately started my project and after two and a half years of research, programming and processing the "do's and don'ts" of Simple and Joint Divorce Applications, I finally completed my project and named it, Divorce i.T. With you in mind, this software was created in hopes to make your divorce preparation easier.
