Canadian business owners may have to wait for the next budget to discover what federal plums 2011 holds--but at least they can call the year their own. The Government of Canada recently proclaimed 2011 the "Year of the Entrepreneur."
"It is important to celebrate the success of Canadian entrepreneurs," says Jean Rene Halde, president and CEO of the Business Development Bank of Canada. "Almost 98 per cent of Canadian businesses have fewer than 100 employees. These businesses led by risk-taking entrepreneurs play a vital role in creating jobs and wealth."
The federal government's announcement at Ryerson University in Toronto was also applauded by Catherine Swift, chairwoman, CEO and president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
