Are pay increases mandatory by law

Expert: Howard Levitt

Lisa asked:

What are the labour standards on pay raise increases? Are there laws associated with when and how much is required by the employer? If not are there general guidelines that should be followed in British Columbia?

Howard Levitt answered:

There are no such standards or requirements within the law. Employers are not required to provide any wage increases if they do not wish to do so.

EDITOR'S NOTE: In many cases it is up to the employer if they wish to increase their employees' salary.
