Ask The Expert

If I'm requesting for 2011 tax reduction and I don't yet have the T2200 or T777 for that year, do I submit the 2010 forms?

Glen asked:

I'm a commissioned sales rep who gets no reimbursement for expenses. Therefore I claim a large amount on my yearly income tax claim and average a return of between 5-7K. I want to submit a T1213 form to request to reduce tax deductions. The form asks me to submit the form along with a T2200 and T777. If I'm requesting for 2011 tax reduction and I don't yet have the T2200 or T777 for that year, do I submit the 2010 forms?

CRA answered:

There are two options available to you in this situation:

You can simply submit the 2010 forms if you don't yet have the 2011 forms, or alternatively, you can submit a TD1X form which your employer will use, which is a statement for commission income and expenses for payroll tax deductions. This allows for projection of the year's expenses and would probably be the better route if you expect to have a busier year with more sales.
