Association Profile: Canadian Bankers Association (CBA)
By CO Staff @canadaone | April 30, 2000
This month for our association profile we interviewed Sharon Wilks of the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) to find out more about the association and what they offer small and medium-sized businesses. Here's what Sharon had to say.

How does the CBA help small and medium-sized business owners (SMEs)?
The Canadian Bankers Association has a variety of publications and a website which provide information and resources for small and medium-sized business operators.
What seminars do you offer for SMEs?
The CBA has two seminar series which will be of interest to small
business operators:
Preparing Your Business for the E-Commerce Age explores the the implications of electronic commerce for small and medium-sized businesses. This free seminar will be offered in 40 locations across the country. Visit our website to find a location near you.
The CBA is also running a seminar program in community high schools across Canada for students in grades 11 and above called Your Money. The program is designed to help Canada's youth develop good money management skills - a key component of running a successful business and planning for personal financial goals. The program addresses three future directions students might take in the short term - pursuing a post secondary education, launching their careers in the work force, or starting their own business.
What free booklets/information do you have available?
The CBA has a wide variety of personal finance and small business information available both on our website and as free booklets. Of particular interest to small business operators will be the CBA's Getting Started in Small Business and E-Commerce Comes of Age booklets, and our Serving the Needs of Small Business website. The booklets are available free of charge by calling 1-800-263-0231 or on our website (www.cba.ca).
To continue to increase small business owners' awareness about the various sources of financing and which may be appropriate to help finance their operation, the CBA has partnered with Industry Canada to promote its web site Sources of Financing, which can be accessed from the CBA site. The Sources of Financing site also includes an SME Services Charges Calculator and a Leasing Calculator.
Is there any other way that your organization helps SMEs?
The CBA's booklets, seminar information and web site also include
valuable links to other resources for small business.
