I am writing to draw your attention to building a public cloud service and pushing for a cloud first policy for Canada. Countries like the U.K., US and Australia have already adopted new cloud first policy in their governments, which assure that cloud and public cloud solutions are the first thing considered before looking at other options. The U.K.'s G-Cloud model can help us achieve this as a more efficient method of public sector IT procurement. G-Cloud delivers better public services for less cost than traditional IT models and stimulates small and medium enterprises. Through G-Cloud, departments are encouraged to buy cloud services through the government-run online catalogue, CloudStore. This helps the country fulfill its pledge that half of new IT spending will be on public cloud services by 2015. Canada continues to tread water as a mid-level performer in science, technology, and innovation while we have the capability to aim higher and become a global leader in information technology. Embracing and creating public cloud offerings is an important step in modernizing Government service delivery and stimulating economic growth in Canada’s IT sector for the 21st century. Given your role in public service, I am sure that like myself, you will see the importance of this issue. I am writing to ask you to please take action to help ensure that cloud solutions are being considered as a central aspect for the future of Canada's IT policy.
