Google Panda Recovery: Site Focus

In the audit from Reliable SEO they found it difficult to identify what CanadaOne was about, from the viewpoint of a search robot.
To us this signals a very significant shift and reinforces what others have said about authority no longer being passed across the domain, but rather relating to more specific categories.
Reliable SEO recommends using Google’s keyword discovery tool, noting that the suggested keywords are a reflection of what Google thinks a site is about.
In our case, the suggestions came back strongly related to topics around registering a business, which fit well with our Starting a Business Guide (always a popular content area), but then completely misses other key categories the site has covered in-depth, such as marketing, HR, sales and technology.
The actions around this will take more time to establish, as we will need to take a new approach to how we create topical guides. Breaking out major categories into sub-topics will be an important first step, as will adding more navigational connections in the main menu to key topics.
Recommended action(s) for other sites:
- Check out what Google thinks your site is about by using the free Keyword Discovery tool associated with AdWords. (Enter your website address in the appropriate field.) Look for unexpected associations as well as those that are missing.
- If you find that your site is not being accurately categorized, analyze your content and menus to identify ways that you can make sections of your website more specific, with keywords flowing from the menu system through to your content.
